After 14th October, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates or security fixes for Windows 10.

Meet Windows 11

Windows 11 is the latest version of Microsoft's operating system for personal computers, officially released on October 5, 2021. It builds upon the foundation of Windows 10 and introduces a variety of new features and changes designed to improve both the aesthetic and performance of the system.

Here are some key features of Windows 11:

Revamped User Interface (UI)

  • Centered Taskbar and Start Menu: The taskbar and Start menu are centered by default, giving a more streamlined, modern look.
  • Rounded Corners: Windows and menus now have rounded corners, creating a more polished, soft aesthetic.
  • New Start Menu: The Start menu no longer has Live Tiles but includes a more simplified grid of icons for apps and a dedicated area for recommended files and apps.
  • Snap Layouts and Snap Groups: A new way to organize open windows into preset layouts to help multitasking. You can easily snap windows side by side or into specific grid arrangements.

Performance and Efficiency Improvements

  • Improved Performance: Windows 11 is designed to be faster and more efficient than Windows 10, with enhancements like better memory management and reduced system resource usage.
  • DirectStorage: A feature designed to speed up loading times for games by allowing faster data transfer from storage devices (like NVMe SSDs) directly to the GPU.
  • Auto HDR: Enhanced gaming visuals by automatically adding High Dynamic Range (HDR) to games, even if they weren't originally designed with it.

Virtual Desktops

  •  Windows 11 allows users to create multiple virtual desktops and easily switch between them, which helps with organizing workspaces for different tasks.

Microsoft Teams Integration

  • Microsoft Teams is integrated into Windows 11, making it easier to chat, call, and video conference with friends, family, or coworkers directly from the taskbar.

Widgets and Live Content

  • Windows 11 introduces a customizable Widgets feature, which provides personalized, at-a-glance information like weather, news, calendar events, and more.

Security Enhancements

  • Windows 11 requires more modern hardware features, including a TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) chip for enhanced security. This makes Windows 11 more secure than previous versions, with better protection against malware and unauthorized access.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Windows 10 PC stop working?

No. Your PC will continue to work, but support for Windows 10 is  discontinued. After 14 October 2025, your Windows 10 PC will no longer  receive security updates and Microsoft will no longer be available to  provide Windows 10 technical support.

Can Upgrade to Windows 11 for free?

The upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro to the equivalent edition of Windows 11 is free. Check to see if this is an  option for you by opening Settings > Privacy and Security > Windows Update. If your PC meets the minimum system requirements and is able to upgrade, you should see an option in Windows Update to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

How is Windows 11 security better than Windows 10?

Windows 11 is the most secure Windows ever built, with comprehensive end-to-end security that covers antivirus, firewall, internet protections, and more. This means more security features, dashboard displays and ongoing updates to help safeguard against future threats.

Will my Microsoft 365 apps be supported when Windows 10 reaches end of support?

Microsoft 365 apps will not be supported on Windows 10 when it reaches end of support because the operating system will no longer meet the system requirements for Microsoft 365 apps.

To remain supported, you can move forward by either upgrading your device to Windows 11 or by setting up the existing subscription on any new computer you purchase.

What can I do with my old computer?
